Yup, its been that long.

Right, so I had this plan to see 365 movies in 365 days or something like that. Either way, that failed. I became poor, canceled my netflix to save money and obviously lack the cash to go a theater. However, there are about 100 movies in the basement I still have to watch, so I will do all I can to update this more. I did see 3 movies recently which I CAN actually talk about: Watchmen, Taken, and Role Models. (Also I have decided the 5 star rating system is complete crap and I pretty much refuse to rate movies that way.)

Watchmen (2009)
Zack Snyder

This is actually the first comic book (Graphic Novel) I have ever read, and then to see the movie about a day after finishing the book was fantastic. I had hard so many bad reviews, people didn't like it because they did not understand what was going on, which I felt the opposite. It was very clear what was going on and from the people I saw it with who had not read the book they felt they understood everything as well. So I will say that you do not have to have read the book to understand the movie. Many critics who have read the book seem to have liked it more, but I would say that's only because the movie leaves things out that are not vital to the plot, but add a lot to the story and background.

I thought the movie was great. It was fun to watch, it was sexy (too much?), and the story has a great commentary on war. The ending was slightly different than that of the novel, which I when I first heard that I was worried. But they did it in a very classy way and it seems to make more sense to viewers who have not read the novel than the real ending.

I had one gripe with the film. I thought Malin Akermin's acting (Laurie) was the worst acting I have seen in a long time for a movie that was this big. She never sounded sincere, she spoke like she was reading from a script and just trying to say the correct lines. I never thought she showed chemistry in any of her relationships and when she started to cry it became almost painful to watch. And I suppose this brings up the other gripe I had with the movie, which comes from having read the novel first: The characters are all supposed to be old, older than they look and older than they act. Laurie and Dan are supposed to be in their 40's not 25. Much of the dialogue in the book is about how they are older than they used to be and how they are dealing with that.

Overall it was great, it represented the book very well, and the direction was great. But it was the age thing that bugged me the most. And Laurie's acting that I cannot forgive. I still recommend both the film and the book.
